Anthony H. Pickard, III

Director of Bands

Mr. Anthony Pickard III, a Decatur, Georgia native, holds a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education and a Master’s in Education from Alabama A & M University. He is the Director of Bands at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School. Previously, he served as Assistant Director of Bands at Rockdale County High School and Director of Bands at Cedar Grove Middle School, where his ensembles earned numerous accolades and superior ratings.

Mr. Pickard also worked as the Assistant Director of Bands at Cedar Grove High School and was a Graduate Assistant for the Alabama A & M University Bands. He has performed with the Huntsville Concert Band and Twickenham Winds, and is active in the Georgia Music Educators Association, where he served as Band Chair for District IV. Mr. Pickard currently serves as the DeKalb County School DIstrict Band Chair.

Residing in Loganville, GA, with his wife Jessica, a school counselor and Varsity Tennis Coach, Mr. Pickard enjoys life with their two dogs, Khloe and Bruno.

Keisha Whitfield

Director of Queens of Halftime

Mrs. Whitfield is a Miami native and product of the fantastic public school system which embraced the arts. She began her career in Miami and joined the King family in 2006 as our dance educator. She has coached both dance team and auxiliary dance for several years throughout her established career in Miami and at King HS.   Currently, she coaches the Queens of Halftime Auxiliary Dance Team and works closely with the band. She has also served as Junior and Senior Class Sponsor,  Royal Essence Coach/Sponsor, served on the testing team, and written dance curriculum for the DeKalb County School District and Georgia Department of Education. Additionally, she heads the Fine Arts department and has produced yearly dance class productions. Over the years, many of her students have continued in dance and have become very successful dance educators, choreographers, studio/company directors, and professional performers. 

Phillip Winters

Percussion Instructor

Phillip Winters is a passionate percussion instructor dedicated to nurturing young talents through the power of music. With 10 years of playing experience and 3 years of instructing, he has contributed to the Atlanta Falcons drumline and worked with Marching to Harmony Inc. Additionally, Phillip served as the percussion director at Eagles Landing High School under the direction of Mr. James Anderson. His goal is to ensure that each child he teaches reaches their maximum potential and improves their musical abilities.
